The Initiative in Professional Ethics (TIPE) is a dean’s special initiative at Texas A&M University at Qatar. Established in 2011, TIPE defines its mission as creating awareness about ethical issues in professional practice in engineering, science & technology, public policy, organizational management, the environment and academic research. TIPE also serves as the umbrella for all ethics-related activities at Texas A&M at Qatar highlighting the branch campus’ focus on ethics across all university curricula and academic programs. Every year TIPE organizes and sponsors several events, which highlight the moral dimension of professional practice. These activities focus on building scholarly collaborations with international scholars, developing partnerships with the local industry in Qatar and fostering critical thinking and public dialogue on the significance of ethics in personal and professional life through community engagement.
 

Since its founding, TIPE projects have received substantial research funding from the Qatar National Research Fund and the U.S. National Science Foundation as well as generous support from the local industry in Qatar. TIPE research has been published by leading international presses. In the years ahead and through the support of the local industry, we aim to establish TIPE as the first center of excellence for professional ethics in Qatar and the region. As a center of excellence, TIPE will continue to organize activities that emphasize the importance of ethics in professional life. We will further strengthen our existing partnerships with the local industry in Qatar to organize events on topics that bridge the link between academia and industry. We especially want to acknowledge and thank QAPCO for supporting TIPE activities since 2016. It is through their generosity of vision and financial support that TIPE has been able to add a number of new activities and support students, faculty and staff to participate in ethics related events in Qatar and abroad. We hope that this partnership will strengthen further in the years to come.
